Mindfulness... Overwhelm... Competition...
Things that make mindfulness hard

I was rushing to get work completed, laundry switched, chores done, animals fed, make a decision about what to eat for dinner, and my mind quietly said, "It's difficult to be mindful when overwhelmed."
There is no easy solution here and there's no one to blame. It seems like living life to the fullest is a recipe for overwhelm.
But then I was listening to Max McNown's song The Room and this verse landed hard:
"Hanging on the wall are thе things that I've done
All the mountain-top momеnts
All the trophies I've won
But nothing in a frame's gonna make me whole
Just man-made prizes for a man-made goal"
I spent my childhood believing that competition was beneficial, that it had a real purpose in motivating and pushing me to do my best.
But maybe life was never supposed to be about competition. Maybe that's just the man-made goal.
It occurs to me that every rose contributes to the beauty of this rose garden. We do not single out and select just the one most perfect rose and destroy the rest. The garden is so impressive because all the roses are blooming to the best of their ability. ALL OF THEM!
Curiosity and kindness in farming.
