People... Person... Personality

My mind has been wandering down this path as long as I can remember. I believe that the words we use are powerful - storytellers can open people to emotions and memories long buried. And I love the stories we call fantasy, with magic which invariably includes the power of words in spells and incantations.

So People is plural and Person is singular. And from person we have the word Personality - as in the essence of the Person, the thing that makes that person unique. Their likes, dislikes, fears, surprises, joys, loves, sadnesses, steadiness or fragileness, energy or apathy...

And here's the thing - every animal I have ever met has a personality.

At the core of values and belief - I believe that every animal has a spirit and it is my goal to extend them the grace of curiosity and show them kindness.

Kindness is often thought of as compassionate, caring, benevolent, generous, gentle, considerate, sympathetic... and while all those are true...

Do not confuse kind with nice. Kindness includes training and discipline which makes it possible to live together peacefully. Kindness requires decisions, big and small, easy and hard. And often kindness requires letting go - of ego, opinions, beliefs, and sometimes the animal.

What kindness allows me to keep though is so much more valuable. From kindness comes my practice of gratitude and thankfullness, even during the hard moments.
