The Reason for Purposeful Breeding

Long ago, in a land very far away... I worked with Phantasie for 3 years for that right lead in the show ring. She had been severely abused and starved before I got her so it did - it took a really long time and a huge amount of work. I still have the scorecard from this dressage test and that smile was noted.

What I have learned is that it is possible to put in the work and the time to develop an animal who does not have the the innate ability. It is possible to rescue a shattered mind and develop that animal into an awesome partner. The results are utterly thrilling.

But there is another way to get extraordinary results - Intentional and purposeful breeding, along with bringing that young animal along with consistency, encouragement and discipline.

I will forever treasure those years of work and the memory of that canter circle in front of a judge. And maybe because of that memory, I treasure my current animals even more than I might have otherwise. I will never have to work that hard again, and I am forever grateful for the ease of training my young animals now.
